WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team returns to action on Friday when the Hoyas they make the short trip to American University for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 18. Racing will start at 5 p.m. at American's Reeves Aquatic Center.
LAST TIME OUT
- Georgetown is coming off an exciting sweep of Towson last week to open the season. In a meet that came down to the final two races on both sides, the GU men and women posted identical 155-145 victories over the Tigers.
- On the women's side, freshman Corey Moon won both distance events in her first collegiate meet.
- Grace Chen picked up the win in the 100-yard backstroke, while Belinda Donohoe touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle.
- Margaret Barnhorst won the 1-meter diving event with Riley Fujioka finishing second. On the 3-meter board, Fujioka claimed first with Barnhorst second.
- Drew Carbone led the men's squad with three individual victories, sweeping the backstroke events and winning the 200-yard IM.
- Brett Sherman also came away with multiple wins, touching the wall first in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races.
- Michael Wheeler (1,000 free), Connor Morikawa (100 butterfly) and Carlson Temple (200 butterfly) all also won their races.
- Griffin Edmonds won the 3-meter dive and finished second on the 1-meter board.
- The Hoyas swept the BIG EAST weekly awards as Carbone earned BIG EAST Men's Athlete of the Week and Moon was selected as the BIG EAST Women's Athlete of the Week.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- Georgetown and American last met during the 2017-18 season as part of a tri-meet with George Washington.
- The Hoya women defeated the Eagles 175.5-64.5, while the men's squad beat American 166-56.
- Cristina Barrett won the 1,000-yard freestyle while Alexandra Rieker narrowly outtouched Evie Mauzé in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Elizabeth Miller and Fujioka finished first and second, respectively in the 1-meter dive.
- Carbone picked up an individual win in the 200-yard IM.

Following Friday's meet, the Hoyas will stay on the road for a dual meet at Davidson on Saturday, Oct. 26. Racing will start at noon.
