WASHINGTON – The third-seeded Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the Pitt Panthers in the NCAA Tournament Second Round on Sunday afternoon at noon at Shaw Field. The nationally No. 2 Hoyas are currently 15-1-3 on the season and earned a first-round bye in the tournament as one of the top 16 seeds.

How They Got Here

• Georgetown made history last Sunday with the program's first three-peat winning the BIG EAST Championship for the third consecutive year in a 3-1 victory over Providence College at Shaw Field. 
• It is just the second time in program history that the squad has won both the regular season and the championship in the same year.  The previous double championship was in 2015.
• Only two other schools have won three-consecutive BIG EAST Championships, St. John's (1992-95) and Seton Hall (1986-88).
• The Blue & Gray has now won the past four BIG EAST Tournaments it has participated in with titles in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
• The Blue & Gray has been in the national polls all season.  The most recent RPI had the Hoyas at No. 2 and last week's United Soccer Coaches' Poll put GU at No. 2.  Georgetown sat at No. 2 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's poll on Monday.

 
NCAA Tournament History

• Georgetown's NCAA Tournament berth is the eighth under Head Coach Brian Wiese. 
• The Hoyas have been to the tournament on nine previous occasions with six trips to the Round of 16 (2018, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 1997) and two to the quarterfinals (2014, 2012). 
• In 2012, the team was the national runner up, falling to Indiana 1-0 in the national championship game. Prior to that season, the program had never moved beyond the second round of the tournament with previous appearances in 2010, 1997 and 1994.
• The Hoyas are 9-6-5 overall in the NCAA Tournament.
• The No. 3 seed ties the highest seed in program history.  Georgetown was the No. 3 overall seed in both 2012 and 2015.

 
About the Panthers

• Pitt defeated Lehigh 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at home on Thursday evening.
• It marked the first NCAA Tournament win for the Panthers in program history.
• Juniors Edward Kizza and Bryce Washington were the goal scorers netting two first half goals.  Kizza leads the team with 12 goals and four assists for 28 points on the year.
• Pitt is 10-7-2 overall and went 4-3-1 in ACC play.  The team fell to Clemson in the ACC semifinals by a score of 1-0.

• Georgetown is 21-5 all-time against the Panthers and 11-1 at home.
• The squads have never met in the postseason.
• The last meeting was a 3-1 Hoya victory in Pennsylvania in 2012, Pitt's final season in the BIG EAST Conference.
• The last time the teams played on the Hilltop was a 6-2 Georgetown victory in 2012.
• GU is 1-1-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament against teams that are currently in the ACC.
