WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team will kick off the second semester with a dual meet at local rival George Washington on Saturday afternoon. The diving portion of the meet begins at 10:30 a.m. before the racing starts at 1 p.m. All the action will take place at GW's Smith Center Pool.
LAST TIME OUT
- Georgetown last competed at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, in November.
- The Hoyas men finished second with 976.5 points behind 10 individual victories and wins in the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays.
- Drew Carbone came away with three victories while Michael Wheeler also had a pair of wins.
- On the women's side, the GU women accumulated 708.5 points to finish third.
- Riley Fujioka won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events and the Hoyas had four top-three finishes.
- Eight Hoyas swam at the Toyota U.S. Open at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta in December.
ABOUT THE MEET
- Last year, the Hoyas hosted GW as part of a tri-meet with American. While GU defeated the Eagles, the Blue & Gray was swept by the Colonials.
- The GU men came away with seven individual wins, including two wins apiece from Brett Sherman and Carbone.
- The Hoya women won the 200-yard medley relay before Belinda Donohoe touched the wall first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.
- Grace Chen came away with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke, while Cristina Barrett won the 1,000-yard freestyle.
COMING UP NEXT
Following this weekend's meet, the Hoyas will return home to McCarthy Pool on Saturday, Jan. 25. Georgetown will host Drexel in a dual meet that is scheduled to start at noon. The meet will serve as GU's Senior Day as the Hoyas will recognize their 13 seniors.
