WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown volleyball team (2-1) travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take part in the Carolina Classic over the weekend, matching the Hoyas against Davidson (1-2), North Carolina (0-3) and Missouri State (1-2). GU opened the 2008 season with its best start since 2005, defeating George Mason and George Washington in straight sets, as senior Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Catholic) and freshman Sara Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) were named to the DC Challenge All-Tournament team. Boland had 113 assists at the DC Challenge, placing her second in the BIG EAST Conference with 12.56 assists per set, just behind Annie Luhrsen (12.60 Avg/S) of Connecticut. Manley played beyond her freshman status, and took advantage of the team's passing to finish last weekend with 34 kills, good for a 3.78 kills per set average, placing her in a tie for sixth in the BIG EAST. Sophomore Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) was another beneficiary of the team's ball movement with 25 kills during the DC Challenge. Dorismond led the Hoyas with a .564 hitting percentage, second to only Jana Matiasovska (.750) in the BIG EAST. Freshman libero Tori Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) helped solidify the Hoyas defense with 37 digs at the DC Challenge. Her 4.11 digs per set average places her seventh in the BIG EAST. The Blue and Gray will kick off play at the Carolina Classic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 5 against Davidson. On Saturday, September 6 the Hoyas take on host North Carolina at noon before concluding its weekend against Missouri State at 4:30 p.m.
