Georgetown Head Coach Pat Conlan On Melissa Conners pitching performance in the second game... "It was her best game of the year. She had great presence out there, she controlled the whole game, she threw first pitch strikes, stayed ahead in the count. It was long overdue, we've been waiting for her first win."
On the overall performance against Towson...
"I thought we played a very good first game, we just had a very bad inning. The score was not any indication of how competitive the game was, the wheels just fell off the bus in that sixth inning. But as far as the second game goes, I always tell them that there are going to be parts of your game that are not always on. We weren't as productive as I'd like us to be on offense, but our defense and pitching kept us in the game and gave us an opportunity to win."
On winning in the final inning of game two...
"The top and middle of our order have been giving us great production and all it takes is one swing of the bat."
Sophomore catcher Suria Bahadue
On the pitch she drove for the game-winning home run in game two...
"I was just thinking about trying to hit it to right field because Sam was on third, but when I saw the pitch I just threw my hands at it. Honestly, I didn't think I hit it that hard, I was like 'oh man another pop-up' but it felt really solid and I don't know if the wind took it, but it felt really good."
On catching Melissa Conners...
"Melissa threw an amazing game. She's been doing a great job and has been so close to getting a win, but today everything was working. She was throwing in, out, on the corner and got them to swing and let the defense do the work.
Freshman LHP Melissa Conners
On earning her first win...
"It took forever, but I finally got it."
On working out of jams in the first and fourth innings...
"I think those are easy to get out of. Towson's runners got on because I threw bad pitches and walked them. I think it gave me more confidence because they haven't hit me hard yet so why would they start now."
On being aggressive on the mound against Towson...
"Suria calls pitches and she's a very aggressive person. She would rather throw inside than throw away, that's just how she works as a catcher and it worked out today. As soon as you throw inside and they step back, it shows they are going to shy away from those pitches and aren't going to hit them."
