Corboz Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week After Record-Breaking Game

Oct. 1, 2012

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore women's soccer player Daphne Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after her performance during the Hoyas 8-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon. This is the second time in two weeks that Corboz has been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and it is the fourth time this season she has been recognized by the league.

In addition to Corboz, junior defender Mary Kroening (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

The Hoyas improved to 11-1-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the BIG EAST with an 8-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday. It was the fifth-straight win for the Hoyas, who are the only team to have not allowed a goal in BIG EAST play.

Corboz was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week after scoring five goals and adding an assist in the 8-0 win over Pittsburgh. It was the second time the Hoyas had scored eight goals against a BIG EAST opponent this season, the first coming in an 8-0 win over Seton Hall on Sept. 14.

The 5-2 midfielder recorded a hat trick in the first half as GU took a 5-0 lead after the opening 45 minutes. She scored two more times and had an assist in the second half.

Corboz's five goals and one assist for 11 points set a BIG EAST record for points in a game, eclipsing the mark of 10 points in a game, held by three different players. The five goals also tied the all-time BIG EAST individual record for goals in a game, last set by UConn's Ginny Woodward, who scored five goals against Providence in 1996.

For the season, Corboz has scored 14 goals and has five assists for 33 points. Her 14 goals breaks the single season record for goals in a season of 13, set by Camille Trujillo (C'12) during the 2010 season. Corboz's 33 points also breaks the single-season record for points (30), set by Ingrid Wells (C'11) during the 2011 season.

In 34 career games, Corboz has scored 24 goals and six assists for 54 points. She ranks tied for eighth all-time in scoring on the Hilltop.

Kroening earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after scoring her first goal of the season on a header off a corner kick in the late stages of the game. The junior defender helped the Hoyas to their fifth shutout of the season in league play and to their ninth this season.

Not to be outdone, junior forward Kaitlin Brenn (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) scored two goals and had four assists, finishing the game with eight points. Brenn is second on the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists for 23 points.

The Hoyas are back in action again this weekend, visiting Cincinnati (4-8-1, 1-5-0) and Louisville (7-3-2, 2-2-2). The road trip starts on Friday, Oct. 5 at Cincinnati, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. The weekend concludes with a visit to Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and the game will be shown live on CBS Sports Network.
