Rodgers Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

Dec. 31, 2012

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior shooting guard Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) was recognized by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday being named the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Player of the Week. It is her second BIG EAST Weekly Award of the season after four nods to the honor roll.

Rodgers had 38 points in 38 minutes in the Hoyas' win over Yale on Friday. She made 13 field goals, shooting 48 percent from the floor, while connecting on 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Rodgers also netted four 3-point field goals. She added six rebounds, five assists, five steals and a block in the win.

The 38 points were a season high for Rodgers and one shy of her career high. The senior guard leads the league in scoring, averaging 25.9 ppg.

This marks the seventh player of the week honor in her career.

The Hoyas will be back in action on January 2 at McDonough Arena as the squad hosts the Temple University Owls at 7 p.m., to finish off the three-game homestand. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
