Camden, NJ - Georgetown University's Varsity Eight won 2 out of 3 races this weekend against EARC opponents at the first running of the Pennsylvania Invitational Regatta on the Cooper River.
Georgetown started off the weekend with an exciting race against the University of Pennsylvania. Penn's top eight lead the race early but couldn't shake the Hoyas who were able to pass them to take the lead in the second half of the race. Georgetown's varsity line-up of coxswain Kerri McKie, stroke Matt Stewart, Henry Hoffstot, Kyle Textor, Mike Blommer, Mike Hennessy, Tim Broughton, John Absher and bow Alexander Willen would go on to win in a time of 6:18.5; 3.6 seconds in front of Penn who finished in a time of 6:22.1.
Georgetown's next race was Saturday morning against George Washington University. In strong headwind conditions and during the last 500 meters of the race, GU was able to pull through the Colonials to win the race in a time of 6:34.2 to GW's 6:36.3.
It their third race of the weekend Georgetown was bested by a strong Northeastern University crew who finished in a time of 6:32.8 in front of Georgetown who posted a time of 6:42.8.
GU also had entries in the 1st and 2nd freshman and JV eight events. Highlights included a win in the 1st freshman eight against GW. The line-up of coxswain Bethany Biszko, stroke Austin Bury, Mike Squitieri, Jack O'Donnell, Will Halle, Alex Miceli, Lazar Zdravkovic, Hunter Dougherty and bow Dimitri Roumeliotis finished in 7:06.4, 3.8 seconds in front of GW (7:10.2).
Georgetown continues with racing next Saturday at their annual Scrimmage with Princeton and Syracuse at Lake Carnegie in Princeton, NJ.
