WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (13-17) will play non-conference opponent Towson (15-14) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Guy Mason Field after inclement weather prevented weekend play against Notre Dame (11-10).
The Tuesday contest marks the eighth time the Hoyas and Tigers have met in the regular season since Georgetown softball's inception in the fall of 2005. The Tigers lead the series 5-2, with one game postponed in career meetings between the two teams.
Georgetown's last contest ended in a 1-0 victory against local rival George Washington. The Blue & Gray is currently on a three-game winning streak with additional wins over Sacred Heart and Mount St. Mary's two weekends ago. Shikara Lowe
(Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) has been the most multi-faceted offensive weapon for the Hoyas, ranking fifth in the BIG EAST in RBI with 20. The junior is the most walked player in the BIG EAST with 15 walks in 29 games, and ranks second in on base percentage (.510). Lowe is currently batting .373 and leads the team with 28 hits. Elyse Graziano
(Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) is in a three-way tie for third in stolen bases in the conference, going nine-for-ten on steal attempts in 2012.
Georgetown pitchers Megan Hyson
(Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), Lauren O'Leary
(La Canada, Calif./La Canada), Mackensey Carter
(Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) and Hannah Slovacek
(Austin, Texas/Westlake) have combined for the fifth-best pitching staff in the BIG EAST with an ERA of 2.59.
The Tigers won two of three this weekend against Delaware to win their first conference home series. Three Towson players were named to the preseason All-CAA team and the Tigers were picked to finish third in the CAA preseason poll.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Guy Mason Field in Washington, D.C.
