Men's Tennis Bounces Back With 6-1 Win Over Bucknell

WASHINGTON - After a pair of rainouts and a tough loss over the past week, the Georgetown University men's tennis team bounced back in a big way with a 6-1 victory over the Bucknell University Bison (5-9) on Friday afternoon at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. With the win, the Hoyas are now 9-6 on the season as the team opens BIG EAST Conference play tomorrow.

The Hoyas started strong, picking up the doubles point as seniors Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and Brian Ward (Darwin, Minn./Litchfield) won, 8-2, at No. 1. Despite a loss at No. 2, GU answered with the 9-7 battle at No. 3 as junior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) and sophomore Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) took the point.

In singles play, the Hoyas won five of six matches. Bruhn won 6-1, 6-1 over Gregg Cohenca at No. 1, before Caris picked up the 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Octavio Canibe.

The Blue & Gray won at four, five and six in singles play to clinch the overall victory. No. 4 Ward defeated Kelly Morque 6-4, 6-2 and No. 5 Distaso downed Kyle Rosen by a score of 7-5, 6-2. Freshman Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) rounded it out at No. 6 with the 6-2, 6-3 victory over Greg Maxson to make the final 6-1.

Georgetown will host the University of Connecticut Huskies on Saturday in the first conference match of the season for the Blue & Gray at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
