Georgetown University softball (8-11) fell in a doubleheader against UCF (15-7) on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 3-2 in the afternoon contest and 5-0 in the second game.
The Hoyas got out to a quick lead in the first game. Samantha Findling
(Norcross, Ga./Norcross) led off with a single, followed by a homerun from Shikara Lowe
(Beaverton, Ore.) to score two runs.
Georgetown held UCF scoreless until the top of the fourth, when the Knights hit two doubles with two at bats to begin the inning. UCF scored twice in the sixth to take the 3-2 lead.
The Blue & Gray went three and out for three innings before Taylor Koenig
(Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) reached first in the seventh inning on a fielding error. Georgetown and UCF combined for just eleven hits in the game, three and eight respectively. Mackensey Carter
(Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) picked up the loss after pitching six innings with three strikeouts. In the second game of the doubleheader, UCF pitcher Ali Schmidt allowed just one hit and no runs in seven innings.
The Hoyas still managed to get on base, as Schmidt walked three batters and hit two. Georgetown left eight runners on base in the contest. Lauren O'Leary
(La Canada, Calif./La Canada) pitched six innings for the Blue & Gray, striking out two.
Georgetown University softball continues play in Florida on Friday at the Florida Gulf Coast Classic in Ft. Myers. The first game is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. against Utah.
