Men's Tennis Drops Stony Brook to Remain Undefeated at Home

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team continued its impressive spring campaign on Thursday with a 4-3 victory over the Stony Brook University Seawolves at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas are currently 12-6 overall with a mark of 7-0 at home this season.

The Hoyas swept doubles action to pick up the first point of the match. The No. 3 pair of sophomore Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) and junior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) won by a score of 8-3, before the No. 2 pair of sophomore Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./The Pendleton School) and freshman Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) managed the 8-3 win.

At No. 1, seniors Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and Brian Ward (Darwin, Minn./Litchfield) downed their opponents, 8-4, to make it 1-0 in favor of the Hoyas.

Ward made it 2-0 early with the 6-1, 6-1 win over Stefan Ilic to open singles play. Caris followed that up with a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Francis Bertrand at No. 2 to give the Blue & Gray the 3-0 lead.

Dottino clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-0, 7-5 win taking down Roope Kailaheimo.

Georgetown dropped the final three matches in three-set battles, but came away with the 4-3 victory for the afternoon.

The Blue & Gray will finish out the regular season this week with three matches at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.

GU will host St. Francis on Tuesday before a pair of BIG EAST matches over the weekend hosting the St. John's University Red Storm and the Villanova University Wildcats on Friday and Saturday.

Tuesday's match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
