WASHINGTON - Georgetown University field hockey Head Coach Tiffany Marsh has announced the team's 19-game schedule for the 2012 season, set to begin on Saturday, August 25, when they take on Appalachian State at 2:30 p.m., as part of a three-team tournament at Davidson College. The Hoyas will take on host Davidson the following day at noon.
The Hoyas schedule includes five teams that were ranked in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) top-30, last season.
"We are really excited about our 2012 schedule," Marsh said. "It offers us an opportunity to tackle some new and challenging competition. With the experience and leadership of our 10 rising seniors, we are ready for a very exciting year for our program."
The team plays its first six games on the road, as travel through Virginia to play at Liberty College on September 1 and at University of Richmond on September 2, with both games beginning at 1 p.m. A week later, the Hoyas travel to St. Louis, Mo. to play Missouri State (September 8) and host Saint Louis (September 9) on back-to-back days.
The Hoyas schedule includes seven home games to be played at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md. GU opens its home schedule on Friday, September 14 at 4 p.m. when they host BIG EAST rival Providence. The game will also begin the Hoyas conference schedule. On Sunday, September 16, Georgetown will host Lehigh at 4 p.m. in College Park. The Hoyas earned its lone conference win in the season-finale against the Friars and defeated the Mountain Hawks, both on the road and both by a score of 3-2 in overtime.
The BIG EAST schedule will be split with three games at home, including Providence, Rutgers (October 5) and Syracuse (October 19) and three on the road, at Louisville (September 21), Connecticut (October 13) and Villanova (October 26).
Georgetown will continue non-conference series with Monmouth (N.J.) and Lock Haven when the schools travel to College Park for games on September 29 and September 30, respectively. GU will also host Lehigh on September 16. The Blue & Gray travel to Fairfield on October 14 and conclude its season with Lafayette on October 28.
In addition to Missouri State and Saint Louis, Georgetown also adds Miami (Ohio) to its non-conference schedule, travelling to Oxford, Ohio to play the Redhawks on September 23.
