July 5, 2012

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team will play its first nationally televised game on ESPNU on Friday, September 21 when they travel to Princeton University to take on the Tigers with the opening kick-off scheduled for 7 p.m.

"Our kids are very excited about playing on national television against a storied program like Princeton," Head Coach Kevin Kellysaid. "This is a well-deserved opportunity to gain exposure for Georgetown football and what we continue to build on the Hilltop."

The Hoyas are coming off its best season in over a decade, finishing 8-3 after playing for the Patriot League Championship against Lehigh. It was the first time the program competed for a Patriot League title. In 2011, the Hoyas were led by a staunch defense that limited opponents to a Patriot League low 19.27 points per game, a mark that was good for 14th in the nation. Georgetown's opportunistic defense also forced 33 turnovers, giving the team the fourth best turnover margin in Division I FCS. GU returns seven starters on defense, including a pair of Patriot League First Team honorees with rising senior middle linebacker Robert McCabe (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep) and rising senior cornerback Jeremy Moore(New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse).

On offense, Georgetown returns 10 starters, including rising senior quarterback and captain Isaiah Kempf (Glendale, Calif./Bridgton Academy) and rising senior offensive lineman and Joe Eacobacci No. 35 Memorial Jersey recipient Kevin Sullivan(Maywood, N.J./Bergen Catholic). In 2011, Kempf helped lead the nation's third most efficient red zone offense, converting on 36-of-39 drives inside the opponents 20-yard line.

The Hoyas will open its season on Saturday, September 1, when they travel to Davidson, N.C. to take on the Davidson Wildcats at 6 p.m. The Hoyas play its home-opener on Saturday, September 8, when they host Wagner at 1 p.m.
