Men's Golf Announces Edwards and Loop as Captains for 2012-13 Season

Sept. 4, 2012

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Men's Golf Coach Tommy Hunter announced today that seniors Justin Edwards (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake Village) and Curtis Loop (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) will serve as captains for the 2012-13 season.

"Justin and Curtis will lead our team this year," Hunter said. "They understand the importance of their role and the responsibilities that lie within. As seniors, they have had plenty of experience with high-level competition which provides a great deal of self-confidence and the ability to help our younger players understand what it takes to succeed. Veteran players bring a valuable asset to the dynamic of any team and Justin and Curtis are just that."

Edwards moved into the starting lineup last spring and appeared in four tournaments, including the BIG EAST Championship. In 14 rounds, Edwards posted a 77.50 stroke average. He had his best finish - a tie for 33rd place - at the Navy Spring Invitational.

Loop, a two-year starter in the lineup for the Hoyas following his transfer from Cal, played in 18 rounds and finished second on the team in stroke average last year at 74.11. He played in all of the team's fall tournaments and the opening tournament of the spring. His best finish was a fifth place finish at the Maryland Intercollegiate last year, firing a 6-under par 207.

In 45 career rounds at Georgetown, Loop has posted a 73.84 average, including a 16th place finish at the 2011 BIG EAST Championship.

The Hoyas open the 2012-13 season this weekend, competing in a 12-team field at the Golfweek Program Challenge. The Golfweek Program Challenge features 12 men's and women's programs competing on two different courses in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The men's team will compete for a trophy at True Blue in Pawley's Island, while the Georgetown women's team will compete at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. Team scores will be combined at the end to determine the program champion.
