Robert McCabe Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Year

Jan. 9, 2013

WASHINGTON - Senior linebacker Robert McCabe (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep) has been named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Year and will be honored during a banquet at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on February 16. McCabe is the second consecutive Georgetown football player to earn the honor, following Andrew Schaetzke, who won the award last season.

McCabe and senior cornerback Jeremy Moore (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) were also selected ECAC FCS First Team All-Stars. It was the first time the Hoyas have had two players named to the first team, after placing one on the first team in each of the past two seasons. Moore was named to the second team last season.

The postseason has been full of honors for McCabe, who has already received First Team All-America honors from the AP, AFCA and The Sports Network, while earning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors, after leading the FCS with 159 total tackles. He broke the Georgetown program record with 407 career tackles. He led the Patriot League with 14.5 tackles for loss and was among the league leaders with 5.5 sacks, placing him fourth in the voting for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the FCS's Top Defensive Player.

Moore earned ECAC All-Star status for the second consecutive year, after a strong finish to his career on the Hilltop. Moore set Georgetown and Patriot League records for career interception return yards with 318. He scored three defensive touchdowns, including interception returns of 80 and 41 yards. A two-time First Team All-Patriot League selection and 2012 Preseason All-America selection was a consistent big play threat for the Hoyas defense, finishing second in the PL with five interceptions, while leading the league in fumbles recovered with four. He was also third in fumbles forced with two. Moore also became the Hoyas all-time leader in kick-off return average (23.2/return).
