WASHINGTON - Senior midfielder Sophia Thomas (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Prep) was one of 50 student-athletes to be named to the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List which was announced by The Tewaaraton Foundation late last week. Thomas and the No. 11/10 Hoyas have started the season 2-0 with victories over the University of Delaware and Towson University.
Thomas was already named unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST so far this season.
She was a second team IWLCA All-America honoree a season ago marking her second All-America honor and her first-career nod to the second team. She was also named First Team All-South Region by the IWLCA.
As a junior, Thomas earned her second All-BIG EAST First Team award and second all-region honor. She led the squad in scoring with a team-best 38 goals along with eight assists for 46 points. The midfielder had three game winning goals and hit three free position shots. Thomas was named a Tewaaraton Trophy nominee, the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and was named to the weekly honor roll.
Thomas was a Third Team All-America selection as a sophomore making her one of just 15 players in program history to earn All-America honors twice in her career.
This is Thomas' second nod to the Tewaaraton Watch List.
She was one of just seven players from the BIG EAST Conference to earn a spot on the 2013 list.
