Georgetown Men's Lacrosse Unable to Keep Pace With Mount St. Mary's Offense, Fall 14-6

EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (2-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) traded goals with Mount St. Mary's (4-4, 0-0 NEC) early, but was unable to keep pace with their offense, as separate runs of three and five goals sunk the Hoyas, 14-6 on Tuesday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on the campus of Mount St. Mary's.

Senior attack Brian Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) and junior attack Jeff Fountain (Lutherville-Timonium, Md./St. Paul's School) each scored two goals, while senior midfielder Jason McFadden (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) had two assists in the loss.

Redshirt sophomore goalie Jake Haley (Grasonville, Md./Queen Anne's County) made nine saves and had his first career assist, but took the loss, as The Mount outshot the Hoyas 39-19.

The Hoyas and Mountaineers traded goals early in the first quarter, as Andrew Scalley scored after a GU penalty to take a 1-0 lead. Georgetown answered soon after, as Jake Haley found a sprinting John Wujciak (Essex Fells, N.J./Delbarton) on a clear, as Wujciak sprinted through defense to score the Hoyas first goal of the game with 11:12 left in the first quarter. Scalley helped The Mount regain the lead just under two minutes later, wrapping around the cage for the goal. Senior Travis Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta/The Hill Academy) tied the score again at two, scoring on a pass from senior midfielder Jason McFadden (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall).

Mount St. Mary's took control scoring the next three goals to take a 5-2 lead. Junior attack Jeff Fountain (Lutherville-Timonium, Md./St. Paul's) ended the run, scoring unassisted with 33 seconds left in the first quarter, but the Mountaineers added one more before the end of the period, to take a 6-3 lead.

The Mount continued to roll in the second quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 10-3 lead into the half.

Fountain ended the Hoyas scoring drought, scoring a man-up goal on the behind the cage feed from Zac Guy (Tully, N.Y./Tully). Scalley would add two quick goals to extend the MSM lead to eight goals, at 12-4. Senior Brian Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored on McFadden's feed midway through the third quarter to bring the Hoyas within seven goals, at 12-5. After another Mount goal, Casey found the back of the cage again with 1:32 remaining in the third quarter. But the Hoyas could not hold the Mount offense, as they finished the third quarter with a 14-6 lead.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter, as The Mount held on for the 14-6 victory, snapping the Hoyas 14 game win streak against MSM.
