WASHINGTON - Georgetown University baseball player Danny Poplawski (Bellevue, Wash./Overlake) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after his performance during a weekend series against South Florida.

Poplawski and the Hoyas took two of three games from the Bulls and improved to 17-9 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST. Georgetown has won 11 of its 14 games overall.

A senior second baseman, Poplawski batted .417 for the weekend (5-for-12) with three RBI and two runs scored as the Hoyas had solid contributions from its lineup and pitching rotation.

Overall this season, Poplawski is batting .289 (28-for-97), with a team-leading nine doubles and 15 RBI, which ranks third on the team. He is third on the team with 15 runs scored. In six BIG EAST games, Poplawski is batting .304 with one double and three RBI.

The Hoyas won the first game of the series last Friday, beating the Bulls 1-0 behind strong pitching performances from its starters and bullpen. Starter Jack VanderLinden (Dallas, Texas/Episcopal) threw seven strong innings while allowing only three hits with four walks and five strikeouts. VanderLinden retired nine of 10 batters through the seventh inning before making way for senior Neal Dennison (Houston, Texas/Lamar). Dennison threw the eighth and ninth innings, allowing two hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Freshman pitcher Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison) got the win, throwing 3.2 innings of scoreless relief as Georgetown scored the winning run in the bottom of the 13th on a wild pitch.

Georgetown lost the sandwich game of the series, 10-6 in 10 innings, but had battled back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game at 5-all and then scored in the ninth to tie the game at six. Poplawski junior first baseman Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) each hit two-run singles in the inning.

In Sunday's series finale, sophomore Matt Hollenbeck (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) held South Florida hitless for nearly six innings and freshman catcher Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines) drove in three runs as the Hoyas beat USF 7-2 to win the series.

The Hoyas hit the road this weekend for a non-league series at St. Mary's in California. Georgetown plays its first game on the West Coast on Friday, April 5 at 6 p.m. (ET).
