WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team is taking a break from BIG EAST play on Wednesday, facing off with UMBC in a midweek non-conference matchup at Guy Mason Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
The Hoyas are coming off of a 2-1 weekend at home against BIG EAST opponent Syracuse, winning the first two on Saturday before losing an extra-inning affair on Sunday, 9-5. They are 7-6 in BIG EAST play, 17-26 overall, and have a 7-4 record when playing at Guy Mason Field this season.
Alexandria Anttila (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) continues to be an offensive leader for Georgetown, tacking on two RBI this past weekend to extend her team lead to 32. She has also hit 10 homeruns this season and has a .628 slugging percentage.
Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) has also heated up offensively. In 13 BIG EAST game this season she leads the Hoyas with a .381 batting average while leading the team with 11 runs and 16 hits.
Sophomore Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) will be in the circle, looking to build on her team high 11 wins and 135 strikeouts in 143.2 innings pitched this season. She is limiting opposing batters to a .269 batting average.
UMBC is currently on an 11-game losing streak, dropping two game to Boston University this past weekend. Sophomore Taylor Hall and junior Chelsea Bertoglio are each batting over .300 on the year and have on-base percentages above .450, combining for 18 extra base hits and 44 RBI. Heather Brown is the leader on the mound, ranking first in all major pitching categories for the Retrievers.
