Men's Tennis Team Honored at Banquet

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team held its 2013 awards dinner last night and honored its standout student-athletes. Head Coach Gordie Ernst presented the top honors of the 2012-13 season.

Junior co-captain Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) earned the team's Most Valuable Player award. Distaso posted an 18-7 overall singles record, was 15-3 in dual matches and went undefeated in league matches, 3-0. He was 5-0 at fourth singles and 9-1 at fifth singles. Distaso won nine of his final 10 singles matches and also had an eight-match winning streak stretching between the fall and spring. Distaso built an 18-16 mark in doubles.

The 2013 Coaches Award was given to sophomore Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor). Tropiano spent the majority of the season at six singles and went 10-2. He ended the year with a 15-9 overall singles mark and was 12-6 in dual matches. Tropiano went 14-13 in doubles.

Senior co-captain Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) joined the Hoya 100 Win Club after totaling 116 combined wins in singles and doubles during his four seasons. Caris was selected to the 2013 All-BIG EAST Men's Tennis Team and went 19-14 in singles and 18-14 in doubles this year.

The Georgetown men's tennis team finished the 2012-13 season with a 12-11 dual match record and went 3-0 against BIG EAST foes. The Hoyas earned the fifth seed in the 2013 BIG EAST Men's Tennis Championship, the highest seed Georgetown has earned under Head Coach Gordie Ernst.
