WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad (7-11, 1-5 BIG EAST) earned two BIG EAST Conference weekly honors on Monday as freshman center Natalie Butler (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) won the Rookie of the Week award and senior forward Andrea White (Lancaster, Va./Lancaster) was named to the weekly honor roll. This is the third-consecutive week that these two have won these conference awards.
Butler extended her consecutive double-double streak to eight games following a pair last week. The rookie center tallied 13 points and 14 rebounds at Providence on Wednesday before registering 16 points and 14 boards at Seton Hall on Saturday. For the week, Butler shot 48.1 percent and added a pair of blocks per contest. Butler maintained her spot atop the BIG EAST rebounding list this season, showing a 13.4 caroms per contest average.
Her seven BIG EAST Freshman of the Week certificates put her in a tie for third with Connecticut's Rebecca Lobo for most all-time. The league record of 10 newcomer awards is held by Connecticut's Maya Moore (2007-08).
This is her seventh Rookie of the Week award this season and eighth honor overall.
White led the Hoyas in scoring in both games last week, averaging 19 points, 12 rebounds. White ranks second in the BIG EAST behind teammate Natalie Butler with nine double-doubles on the season.
This is fourth nod to the honor roll this season and fifth award this year overall. White has earned five spots on the honor roll in her career.
Georgetown has won eight BIG EAST awards so far this year and also had six nods to the honor roll.
The Hoyas will host the DePaul University Blue Demons on Wednesday at 8 p.m., at McDonough Arena. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
