Off School Record Round, Hoyas Set to Play in Nittany Lion Invitational

Oct. 2, 2014 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's golf team took part in a practice round on Thursday and will begin play on Friday, Oct. 3 in the 2014 Nittany Lion Invitational, being hosted by Penn State at the Blue Course.

The three-day tournament will tee off at 9 a.m. each day with split tee times on Friday and Saturday and a shotgun start on Sunday.

Georgetown will be among 13 teams competing in the tournament, along with host Penn State, Columbia, Eastern Michigan, Akron, William & Mary, Yale, Harvard, Maryland, Bucknell, Old Dominion, Princeton, Marshall and Western Michigan. The par 72 course will play at a total of 6,328 yards.

The Hoyas are coming a 14th place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge, where they shot a 75-over par 939. Georgetown fired a final round 1-over par 289, the lowest team score for a single round in program history, besting the mark of 295 set in the second round of the 2006 BIG EAST Championship.

The team was paced by junior Mackenzie Boydston (Keller, Texas/Nolan Catholic), who shot a 1-under par 71 in the final round and finished in 58th place with a score of 19-over par 235.

Overall, Georgetown was led by freshman Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School), who tied for 35th place at 13-over par 229. She posted a score of even-par 72 in the final round.

Junior Patricia Lee (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) and freshman Lauren Gros (Windermere, Fla./Windermere Prep) each carded scores of 1-over par 73 in the final round. Lee tied for 64th place at 21-over par 237, while Gros tied for 76th place at 25-over par 241.

The Hoya lineup will also include freshman Christine Schmitt (Pittsford, N.Y./Mercy) and sophomore Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China/Foshan No. 3 Middle School). Sophomore Kelly Hwang (Moorestown, N.J./IMG Academy) will play as an individual.
