LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team concluded the final evening of competition at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday at Kinney Natatorium, as the Hoya women finished third of nine teams, while the men finished fourth out of nine teams.
The women's squad finished with 861 points over the three-day meet, behind host Bucknell (1631) and Fordham (1097.5), while finishing in front of Towson, LaSalle, Vermont, Delaware, Binghamton and Susquehanna. The men finished with 709.5 points in the competitive field behind Yale (1762), Bucknell (1147) and LaSalle (1124.5). GU finished in front of Binghamton, Fordham, Delaware, Towson and Susquehanna.
Sophomore Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) broke a program record in the preliminary round of the women's 200 yard backstroke finishing with a time of 2:03.57. Duncalf returned during the evening round to finish eighth in the `A' final.
Freshman Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) continued her strong weekend, finishing second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.35. Junior Erica Fabbri (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) finished fourth overall in 51.45 and freshman Kirstin Peterson (Hunterdon County, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) finished seventh in 52.22. On the men's side sophomore Will Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished sixth with a time of 47.00.
Freshman Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) broke a program record during the morning preliminary round with a 2:19.65 in the 200 yard breaststroke. She finished third in the evening `A' final finishing in 2:20.23.
The Hoya women set another program record as the 400 yard freestyle relay quartet of Fabbri, Peterson, Christine Ryan (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and Page finished second overall with a time of 3:25.49. The men's 400 freestyle relay squad of Leach, Michael Smigelski (Southington, Conn./Southington), David Chung (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and Chandler Hinson (Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School) finished fifth overall with a time of 3:07.20.
Georgetown will return to the water on Saturday, December 6 when they open their home schedule against Howard University at 1 p.m. at McCarthy Pool
