WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's tennis team (1-6) will play two matches in Alexandria, Va. on Friday and Saturday. GU has not played any matches since Feb. 7. The Hoyas will host the DePaul Blue Demons (9-1) in a BIG EAST matchup on Fri., Feb 21 at 4 p.m. at the Belle Haven Country Club. Georgetown will then take on the Montana State Bobcats (0-7) the following day, Sat., Feb 22 at 7 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Athletic Club. Both matches will be played in Alexandria, Va.
The Hoyas won their opening spring duals match, but have not been able to come away with a win since. After dropping its last five matches, Georgetown will look to get back on track on Friday and Saturday.
Georgetown senior co-captain Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) leads team in duals play with a 4-3 record, primarily out of the No. 4 position. Freshman Sophia Barnard (Mill Neck, N.Y./Portledge School) recently played her first match in the No. 1 position after playing out of the No. 2 and 3 positions for most of duals play.
In doubles play, the Hoyas played eight different pairings with five of them winning at least one match. Barnard and freshman Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) are both 2-1 in doubles play. As a pairing, Barnard and Saperstein are 1-0 with a win against Navy. The freshmen played in one other unfinished doubles match together.
GU played St. John's in its only BIG EAST matchup of the year so far. The Hoyas hosted the Red Storm on Feb. 7, but dropped the match, 5-2.
DePaul, ranked No. 45 in the latest IPA polls, swept Michigan State last Sunday, 7-0, which stretched its current win streak to eight matches. DePaul's last loss came at then-ranked No. 7 Texas A&M on Jan. 26.
Montana State has yet to win a duals match since opening its schedule on Jan. 17 against Washington State. The Bobcats have played two top-30 IPA ranked teams.
