Georgetown Baseball Set for Three Game Series at UNC-Greensboro

WASHINGTON - Following Wednesday's postponement versus UMES, the Georgetown baseball team hits the road for a three game series the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). The series kicks off with a 4 p.m. matchup on Friday and the two teams will also play a 2 p.m. game on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday. This weekend begins a stretch of 12 consecutive games away from home for the Blue & Gray.

The Hoyas are coming off of a three-game sweep of Hartford, playing a total of 33 innings in a 32-hour span, at Barcroft Field in Arlington, Va. The Hoyas won both ends of a doubleheader on Friday, 4-3 in 13 innings and 6-3, before winning the series finale on Saturday, 11-10 in 10 innings.

In both extra innings affair, sophomore catcher Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines) provided the walk off heroics. He started the festivities with a double in the bottom of the 13th in game one on Friday to score Beau Hall before capping off the weekend with a single in bottom of the 11th in game three on Saturday to plate Eric Webber.

Georgetown's senior first baseman, Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Northfield Mt. Hermon Prep (Mass.)/Guilderland) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll for his efforts over the weekend. Anderson batted .500 (7-14) with a .562 on-base percentage and a .786 slugging percentage and six RBI. He started off the weekend with a four-hit effort in a 13-inning win, including a double in extra innings. In game two of Friday's doubleheader, Anderson had another multi-hit performance, driving in a career-high five runs in the first two innings, including a monster grand slam. He concluded his weekend with a bases-loaded walk to complete a four-run comeback in the bottom of the 10th inning, setting up Georgetown's 11-inning walk-off win.

Sophomore Matt Smith (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley) struck out a career-high seven Hartford batters in six innings of work, leading the Hoyas to a 6-3 victory in game two of Friday's doubleheader. He scattered seven hits while giving up just one run, improving his season ERA to a paltry 1.64.

Scouting UNCG

The Spartans enter the weekend with a 2-5 overall record, most recently falling to High Point, 7-4 on Wednesday. Their two wins have been of the walk-off variety over ACC opponents Duke (9-8) and Wake Forest (11-10).

UNCG is led by Zac MacAneney, who is batting a team-high .406 in seven games and has scored 10 runs. Hunter King is hitting .333 and has the Spartans lone home run of the season. As a team, UNCG is hitting .254 and averages 4.9 runs per game.

Ryan Clark, the Spartans' Friday starter leads has a 1.29 ERA in seven innings pitched. Tyler Frazier has not allowed a run in three appearances out of the bullpen. As a staff, UNCG has a 6.19 ERA, giving up 44 earned runs (58 total runs) in seven games.
