WASHINGTON - The No. 14/15 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (1-1) will travel to Princeton University (1-1) on Saturday for a 3 p.m., matinee at Sherrerd Field against the No. 19/18 Tigers. The Hoyas are looking to bounce back from a tough loss at No. 20/19 Towson University last weekend.
The squad suffered a tough 14-10 loss last weekend at Towson. The Tigers took an early 6-0 lead and it was too much for the Hoyas to overcome.
Statistically, the Hoyas held the advantage with 13 more shots, 34-21, and a 13-12 advantage on draw controls. The defense also forced 15 Tiger turnovers. Sophomore attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School), junior attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and senior midfielder Kelyn Freedman (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor) all had multiple goals for the Blue & Gray.
Etchison leads the team with eight points on six goals and two assists. Tarzian, Freedman and senior midfielder Hannah Franklin (Phoenix, Md./McDonogh School) all have six points on the year. Senior attacker Reilly Woodman (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's and St. Agnes) has pulled in a squad-best nine draw controls, while Freedman and junior defender Adrianne Devine (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) have both posted three caused turnovers.
Freshman goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) has tallied five saves in two games played.
Juniors Erin Slifer and Erin McMunn combined for seven of Princeton's goals as the No. 19-ranked Tigers defeated Rutgers, 11-4 in the home opener. Slifer had a four-goal game while McMunn had five points on three goals and two helpers. Sophomores Anya Gersoff and Alexandra Bruno had two points apiece. Senior Caroline Franke made seven saves for the win. The Tigers extended their home win streak to eight games.
Georgetown is 7-11 all-time against the Tigers and 1-8 on the road. Last year, GU defeated Princeton at Multi-Sport Field, 11-6. Dina Jackson led the way with the hat trick, while Rosie Corcoran and Freedman both managed two goals. Tarzian tallied two assists in the contest.
The opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m., at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. Live stats and a webcast will be available on Princeton's athletic website.
