WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's tennis squad (5-7) concluded its California trip with a 5-2 win over UC Riverside on Thursday afternoon in Riverside, Calif. After dropping their previous six matches, the Hoyas travel back to Washington, D.C. on a four match winning streak. Last season, the women had season-long winning streaks of four and seven.
Georgetown secured the doubles points with three convincing victories with scores of 8-4, 8-3 and 8-2, respectively.
The Blue & Gray won four out of six singles matches to grab the 5-2 victory.
Senior co-captain Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) won in the No. 2 position in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. The victory makes the senior 3-2 from the No. 2 position in dual play.
Freshman Sophia Barnard (Mill Neck, N.Y./Portledge School) won her fourth straight singles match with a win in the No. 3 position over Riverside's Tiffany Jue in a three-set match, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.
Georgetown junior Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) and sophomore Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) won in the final two spots for the Hoyas on Friday. Panarese won from the fifth position, 6-4, 6-1 while Koenen earned the victory in the sixth position with a 6-1, 6-0 finish.
The women's squad returns to D.C. to host the University of D.C. on campus on Tues., March 18 at 2 p.m. ET as they look to extend their win streak to five matches.
