WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball's Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time this season. The news was released by the BIG EAST on Monday afternoon.
Hyson has previously been named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week and to the BIG EAST Honor Roll an additional three times on the year for five total awards.
Hyson and the Georgetown Hoyas swept the Creighton Bluejays in a three-game series this past weekend in Omaha, Neb., as part of an eight-game winning streak for the Blue & Gray.
The junior went 5-for-9 at the plate with two runs, two RBI and her fourth home run of the season, a team-high. Hyson went into the weekend with a .380 average and raised it to .400 after the three-game sweep.
In the circle, Hyson (9-6) won two games with a pair of complete-game, double-digit strikeout performances. On the weekend, Hyson struck out 23 Bluejays to only three walks. She only allowed four earned runs across 14 innings.
On the season, Hyson leads the squad in most offensive statistics through the team's 27 games, including batting average (.400), on-base percentage (.489), slugging percentage (.675), doubles (8), home runs (4) and runs batted in (21). The junior is also tied for a team-high 13 walks.
In the circle, Hyson owns a 1.90 earned run average across 99.1 innings in her 15 starts. She has struck out 106 on the season and is limiting batters to a .189 batting average. The junior has accumulated double-digit strikeout totals in four of her last five starts. She also threw a no-hitter against Stony Brook in the 49er Invite in Charlotte, N.C.
