Hoyas Set For Eight Games in Nine Days at Snowbird Classic

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Georgetown baseball team kicks off its spring break trip to Florida on Saturday morning when the Hoyas take on Western Michigan at 11 a.m. at South County Regional Park. Saturday's contest begins a demanding stretch where the Blue & Gray will play eight games in nine days at the Snowbird Classic.

The Hoyas enter the weekend at 3-6, after dropping three games at UNCG last weekend. Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Northfield Mt. Hermon Prep (Mass.)/Guilderland) leads the team with a .351 batting average and seven RBI. Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines) is second with 10 hits, including a home run last weekend, and five RBI. Ryan Busch (Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville Area) is currently on a team-high six game hitting streak. Freshman David Ellingson (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) leads the pitching staff with a 1.29 ERA, in three appearances out of the bullpen covering 14 innings. Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and Matt Hollenbeck (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) are right behind him with ERAs of 1.59 and 1.93, respectively. Matt Smith (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley), recently bumped up to the Hoyas' Friday night starter, has 4.20 ERA in three starts.

Scouting the Opponents…

Western Michigan - Sat., March 8, 11 a.m.

The Broncos are currently 6-7 on the 2014 season. After starting the season 0-5, Western Michigan defeated No. 7 Louisville on the road and is 5-2 at the Snowbird Classic after sweeping a doubleheader on Monday versus Northeastern and Maine.

South Dakota State - Sun., March 9, 3 p.m. | Tues., March 11, 3 p.m.

South Dakota State is currently 7-5 after its first game at the Snowbird Classic. The Jackrabbits will play two games against Maine before their matchup with the Hoyas. They defeated Presbyterian 4-1 on Friday in their first game in Port Charlotte.

Saint Joseph's - Wed., March 12, 2:30 p.m. | Fri., March 14, 3 p.m. | Sat., March 15, 11:30 a.m.

The Hawks are 3-4 thus far on the season and are playing the weekend at home in the Big 5 Baseball Bash. Saint Joseph's has twice played other BIG EAST opponents, defeating St. John's 4-3 two weekends ago before falling to Villanova 8-2 on Friday.

Iowa - Sat., March 15, 3 p.m. | Sun., March 16, 1 p.m.

The Hawkeyes are riding a seven game winning streak and are currently 9-1 overall. They play a three-game series at Kansas State before their matchup with the Hoyas next Saturday.
