WASHINGTON - Members of the Georgetown University men's soccer team have spent their summers training and preparing for the upcoming season. With appearances all over the nation, Hoyas have been making waves in a number of leagues.

Nationally, sophomore midfielder Alex Muyl (New York, N.Y./Bard) and incoming freshman Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) were among a 24-player roster called into training camp for the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team. Both spent time at the camp and also continued playing with their local squads as well.

Within Major League Soccer, three Hoyas were invited to train with some of the professional first sides as well as with some reserve sides. Senior defender Keegan Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) trained with DC United, the Columbus Crew and the Chicago Fire. Additionally, senior forward Austin Martz (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and sophomore defender Joshua Yaro (Santa Barbara,Calif./Cate School) both practiced with DC United.

Georgetown has a number of student-athletes affiliated with the New York Red Bulls and two are training with the reserves including Lema and classmate Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac). Additionally, sophomore midfielder Jon Azzinnari (Nutley, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) is affiliated with the program.

Locally, student-athletes have been seeing time with the Baltimore Bohemians of the Professional Development League (PDL). Martz earned PDL Team of the Week honors earlier in the summer.

Other Hoyas are also playing in the PDL across the country. Senior midfielder Tyler Rudy (Olney, Md./Sherwood) has played every game he was available for with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds joining junior defender Josh Turnley (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) who is also on the squad.

Senior goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) played with the Orlando City U-23 PDL squad. Orlando City U-23 is affiliated with the club of the same name that will join the MLS next season. Gomez was in the net when Orlando City faced the Portland Timbers of the MLS in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup.

Sophomore forward Brett Campbell (Wallingford, Pa./The Haverford School) has been playing with Reading United AC in the PDL and is second on the squad in scoring. Campbell was named the PDL Player of the Week earlier this summer with two goals and three assists in a week that saw United defeat Baltimore and the Northern Virginia Royals.

Additionally, sophomore midfielder Bakie Goodman (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View School for the Gifted) is playing with IMG Academy Bradenton and junior defender Jared Rist (Durham, N.C./Riverside) has been playing with the Carolina Railhawks' U-23 squad. Rist was part of the team that scrimmaged Muyl, Lema and the U-20 MNT.

On the international stage, Rudy spent a few weeks in Sweden training with Nykoping BIS. He forged a relationship that should continue following graduation.

Finally, incoming freshmen appeared with their Academy teams and earned accolades. Freshman midfielder Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass./The Rivers School) played with the New England Revolution Academy and Lema was with the Red Bulls Academy. Both were named to the U.S. Soccer Starting XI for the East Conference.

Freshman midfielder Matthew Ledder (Falls Church, Va./Gonzaga) scored the game winner in the semifinals at the USSDA National Championship to send Bethesda-Olney to the championship game. For his efforts, he was named to the Starting XI at the tournament.
