Sept. 16, 2014

WASHINGTON - Sophomore defensive lineman Phil Novacki (Great Falls, Va./Langley) has been named a College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Defensive Lineman of the Week Honorable Mention following the Hoyas 27-7 victory over Marist on Saturday.

Novacki's 48-yard interception return for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter helped the Hoyas secure its first victory of the season. He also added three tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in a strong defensive performance for Georgetown.

Novacki claims his first weekly honor, while earning GU's second national CFPA FCS honor of the season, following sophomore punter Harry McCollum(Arlington Heights, Ill./Saint Viator), who was a national punter of the week honorable mention last week. Senior linebacker Nick Alfieri (Portland, Ore./Jesuit/The Hotchkiss School) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The Hoyas return home on Saturday when they host Brown University (0-0, 0-0 Ivy League) at Multi-Sport Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live via HoyaVision on the Georgetown University official athletics website - Jeremy Huber will provide the play-by-play, while Chuck Timanus will lend commentary.
