Sept. 29, 2014 WASHINGTON -
Georgetown University freshman women's soccer player Rachel Corboz
(Green Brook, N.J./Pingry) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Corboz was one of two Georgetown players recognized by the league, as junior midfielder Sarah Adams (San Diego, Calif./Westview) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Georgetown went 1-0-1 in a pair of games last week, playing to a 3-3 tie at No. 20 DePaul in the BIG EAST Conference opener on Thursday and then beating Xavier, 1-0, on Sunday.
The Hoyas, who are unbeaten in the last four games, are now 6-2-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the BIG EAST.
Corboz earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors for the first time after scoring a goal and assisting on two more during the weekend games.
In Thursday's 3-3 draw at DePaul, Corboz assisted her older sister, senior All-American midfielder Daphne Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills) on the team's first goal. It was the second time the younger Corboz had assisted the elder on a score and this goal moved Daphne Corboz into the all-time scoring lead at Georgetown. Later, she assisted on a second-half goal from Adams, knotting the game at 3-all.
Corboz is third on the team in scoring with two goals and four assists for eight points.
Adams, meanwhile, was selected to the Honor Roll after scoring two goals in the 3-3 tie at DePaul. The junior netted her first goals of the season in the second half as GU came back from a 3-1 deficit.
Georgetown returns home for a pair of conference games next weekend, beginning with a matchup against Butler on Thursday, Oct. 2 at Shaw Field. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. Live video of the game, with Tom Kolker calling the play-by-play, and live statistics will be available on the Georgetown Athletics website, www.guhoyas.com.
