NEW YORK CITY - Sophomore guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) earned unanimous BIG EAST Conference Preseason honors at the league's annual women's basketball media day held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Wednesday. Additionally, the Hoyas were picked to finish seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll receiving 34 points.
The event was attended by second-year Head Coach Natasha Adair and Adomako as well as senior forward Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) and freshman guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill).
Reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Adomako was an uncontested Preseason All-BIG EAST pick entering her sophomore year after ranking among the conference leaders in scoring and rebounding as a rookie. Adomako totaled eight double-doubles during her freshman campaign, ranking second among all BIG EAST players, while her nine double-digit rebounding performances listed third. She was a five-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and became Georgetown's fifth Freshman of the Year.
She led the Hoyas in scoring with 13.1 ppg as well as a team-best 6.8 rpg. Adomako started in all 31 contests for the Blue & Gray and was third on the squad in assists (48), fourth in blocks (15) and steals (29). The guard was also named to the 2014-15 BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.
The Blue & Gray was selected to finish seventh in the conference with 34 points.
Adair has the luxury of all five starters back from 2014-15, including Adomako. The Hoyas went 4-27 overall and 2-16 in league play in Adair's first season on the Hilltop.
DePaul totaled 80 points and eight first-place votes, followed in second by St. John's with 66 points and one first-place nod. The Red Storm narrowly edged Villanova (64 points), which earned the remaining No. 1 vote. Creighton followed in fourth with 57 points, squeaking by fifth-place Seton Hall with 55 points. Xavier landed in sixth (37 points), followed by Georgetown (34), Butler (28), Marquette (15) and Providence (14).
Georgetown will open the season on November 13 on the road at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. GU will host Virginia Tech in the home opener on November 18 at McDonough Arena. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
