WASHINGTON - Senior Lauren Saar (Richland, Mich./Plainwell) of the Georgetown University volleyball team has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. The accolade recognized Saar's performance in Georgetown's two matches over the weekend.
Saar became just the ninth player in Georgetown volleyball history to record 1,000 digs for her career, accomplishing the milestone with her first dig on Sunday against Xavier. She averaged 2.86 kills and 2.71 digs per set over the two matches and recorded her sixth double-double of the season versus the Musketeers with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Monday was Saar's second selection to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this season and fifth of her career. She was also named to the honor roll two weeks ago on November 2. It is Georgetown's sixth weekly honor of the season as both Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) and Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) were named to the honor roll last month. Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) earned consecutive selections in September.
Georgetown will play its final match of the season on Friday, November 20, hosting Creighton University for an 8 p.m. match at McDonough Arena. The contest will serve as GU's Senior Day as the Hoyas will recognize their lone senior -- Saar -- in a ceremony prior to the match.
