LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team completed competition at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday evening at Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa. The Hoya women finished sixth overall in a nine-team field with 791.5 points, while the men finished sixth with 581 points.
It was another record-breaking day for the Hoyas, as the women broke three more program records to give them 10 new records over the three-day meet.
Freshman Carrie Bonfield (Skilman, N.J./The Pennington School) got the women off to a strong start on Sunday, earning a third-place finish in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle with a program record time of 16:49.94, shattering the previous record by 18 seconds.
Junior Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) broke her own school record in the 200-yard backstroke during the Sunday morning preliminary round, finishing in 2:00.57. During the evening 'A' final she finished fifth in 2:00.85. For Duncalf, it was the second of her own program records that she broke during the Bucknell Invitational. She broke her record for the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday.
Sophomore Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) won her second event of the three-day meet, breaking her own school record in the women's 200-yard breaststroke finishing in 2:14.40.
On the men's side senior Austin Evenson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Pine Crest School) earned a 10th place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 16:11.94.
The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Daniel Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), senior Michael Smigelski (Southington, Conn./Southington), junior William Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central), and sophomore Chandler Hinson (Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School) earned a sixth place finish with a time of 3:07.14.
The Hoyas return to action after the New Year when they take on crosstown-rival George Washington on Saturday, January 16 for a dual meet beginning at 1 p.m.
