White Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Nov. 23, 2015

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's basketball freshman guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday after a solid week for the Hoyas (2-1). Additionally, junior guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

White helped Georgetown to a 1-1 week which included a 17-point victory over visiting Virginia Tech on Wednesday night. Against the Hokies, White went for a career-high 16 points off 5-of-8 shooting, while stuffing the stat sheet with nine rebounds, five steals and a pair of assists.

At Memphis on Sunday, White sparked the Hoyas' comeback by scoring all seven of her points in the fourth quarter, while five of her game-high seven steals came over the final 10 minutes as well, as Georgetown battled from 16 down to get within one with 12 seconds left. She also posted a squad-best nine boards. White's seven thefts are the most by any BIG EAST player this season while her 4.3 steals per game average over three games leads the league.

This is White's first-career rookie of the week honor, and the first weekly award of the season for the Hoyas.

Woodard averaged 15.0 points and 4.0 rebounds over two games while shooting 48 percent from the field for the Blue & Gray. The junior totaled 20 points at Memphis on Sunday as Georgetown's late-game rally came up just shy. She also had 10 points and four boards in the Virginia Tech victory.

This is Woodard's first-career honor and the second nod to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for Georgetown this season.

The Hoyas will travel to the University of Vermont over the Thanksgiving holiday to play in the TD Bank Classic. Georgetown will face Quinnipiac University on Friday at 5 p.m., and then play either the host Catamounts or St. Francis (Brooklyn) on Saturday.

Live stats and a webcast will be available for both contests at www.GUHoyas.com.
