Nadel Runs PR in 5,000m - Records Third-Fastest Time in GU History at Husky Classic

Feb. 14, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field team split sites this weekend with a trio of Hoyas competing at the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash. Another contingent of athletes traveled to Boston, Mass., for the newly-named David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. Both meets are two-day events. The BU Valentine Invitational, as it was previously named, released an amended schedule due to winter storms in the Boston area.

All-American Samantha Nadel (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore), competing at the Husky Classic, ran a new personal record in the women's 5,000-meter run in just her second race after a stellar cross country season. She finished ninth in the invitational section of the event, clocking 16:04.71, the third-best time in Georgetown history to date. Nadel managed to shave eight seconds off her previous best.

At the Valentine Invitational, Becca DeLoache (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) doubled up competing in both the women's mile and 800-meter run, recording the top Hoya time in both events. DeLoache's time of 2:06.56 is a new indoor PR and was the top collegiate time of the race, only bested by the likes of Oiselle's Lauren Wallace. All-American Sabrina Southerland (New York, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) was just behind DeLoache recording a time of 2:07.25.

DeLoache clocked 4:44.13 in the mile, a time that was good enough for seventh place.

Georgetown returns to action tomorrow at both the Valentine Invitational and the Husky Classic.
