Hoyas Earn Four Silver Medals, Breaks One Program Record on Day One of BIG EAST Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team broke one program records and earned four silver medals on the first night of the BIG EAST Championships on Wednesday at the Ithaca College Athletics and Events Center Aquatics Pavilion.

Through five events the Georgetown men have 99 points, behind only Seton Hall with 115. On the women's side the Hoyas have 64 points, behind Villanova (80) and Xavier (66).

The Georgetown women's 800-yard freestyle relay team opened the evening, as junior Erica Fabbri (Yardley, Pa./Villa Marie Joseph), junior Nicole Tronolone (Fayetteville, N.C./Terry Sanford), freshman Christine Ryan (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and freshman Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) earned a silver medal and set a program record finishing in a time of 7:27.56. GU finished behind Villanova.

The Georgetown men's 800-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Daniel Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.), sophomore David Chung (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), freshman Chandler Hinson (Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School) and junior Cal Rohde (Greenwich, Conn./Peddie School) followed with a silver medal of their own finishing in 6:42.99, behind Xavier.

Sophomore diver Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) earned a silver medal in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 558.05.

Georgetown's 200-yard medley relay concluded the evening by taking silver, as the foursome of senior Michael Young (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponex), Chung, sophomore Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) and sophomore William Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished in a time of 1:31.52.
