Feb. 19, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (4-22, 2-12 BIG EAST) will travel to a pair of BIG EAST Conference foes this weekend. The Hoyas face the Seton Hall University Pirates (22-4, 11-3 BIG EAST) in South Orange, N.J., on Friday at 7 p.m. On Sunday, GU will travel to St. John's University to take on the Red Storm (17-8, 8-6 BIG EAST) in a 2 p.m. matchup. Friday will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network and Sunday will be available online on ESPN3.

Last weekend, Georgetown dropped a pair of games at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas fell to Xavier University, 60-55, on Friday and to Butler University, 65-56, on Sunday.

Junior guard Brittany Horne (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) led the way with 17 points including a 3-of-6 performance from beyond the arc against Xavier. Freshman guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) added 10 points and eight rebounds. Freshman center Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) was huge on the boards with 12 caroms including seven on the offensive glass.

The Hoyas outrebounded the Musketeers, 42-41, and forced 18 turnovers while committing 17, but shot 32.3 percent from the field (23-of-65). The difference came in the final minutes as the Blue & Gray couldn't corral a board to stop second-chance opportunities from Xavier.

Junior guard Logan Battle (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led the way for the Hoyas with a season-high 17 points against Butler on Sunday. She was the lone Hoya in double figures and was 7-of-13 from the floor. Sophomore guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) pulled in a career-high 14 rebounds and added nine points as well. Belk scored eight points and had nine boards in the contest.

The Hoyas outrebounded the Bulldogs, 50-36, and had 13 turnovers while Butler had nine. GU shot 32.9 percent (23-for-70) from the field and held BU to 37.7 percent (20-for-53) from the field. However, the Bulldogs shot an impressive 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from beyond the arc.

Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 13.2 ppg and has posted a squad-high 7.1 rpg. Vitalis is second with 9.0 ppg as well as 6.3 rpg and Horne rounds out the top three with 8.5 ppg.

Georgetown holds a +3.2 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 36.3 percent on the season.

After a win at DePaul last Friday night, a game that saw three lead changes during the final 30 seconds of play, Seton Hall suffered a letdown at Marquette last Sunday, losing 73-70. Leading the Pirates in scoring twice last week, Daisha Simmons was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the third time this season. She averaged 24.5 ppg for SHU against DePaul and Marquette.

Georgetown is 24-33 all-time against the Pirates and 23-31 in BIG EAST play. In the last game, the Blue & Gray put together a huge effort, but couldn't hang on falling to the then-No. RV/25 Pirates, 99-85, in overtime. Adomako led the way with a career-high 25 points and was one of five Hoyas in double figures.

This past weekend in the Midwest, junior guard Danaejah Grant put up a solid pair of performances to earn herself a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Against Marquette on Friday in a 64-52 win, the Piscataway, N.J., native narrowly missed a double-double, tallying 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists as the Red Storm pulled away late. In the team's loss to DePaul on Sunday, Grant scored a game-high 22 points and tied a career high with 11 rebounds, marking her third double-double of the season.

The Hoyas are 28-26 all-time against the Red Storm and 28-24 in BIG EAST Conference play. In the last meeting, GU fell, 74-57. Adomako led the way for Georgetown with 15 points and six rebounds.
