WASHINGTON - The Hoya women's tennis team ended the regular season on a high note as they defeated UMBC, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. The victory was the third-straight win for the Blue & Gray and it marked the fifth-straight campaign with double digit victories. Dating back to the 2010-2011 season, Georgetown has recorded a minimum of 11 wins each season.
Georgetown was in the lead from the beginning as it took the doubles point after winning both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches.
The duo of Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) and Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) defeated Mariami Dolashvili and Shannon Cleary, 8-4. From the No. 2 doubles match, Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) and Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) were victorious over Hanna Victorsson and Aishu Iyer, 8-1.
GU was also strong in singles play as it took the No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 singles matches.
As has been the trend this spring, Saperstein defeated Dolashvili in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, from the No. 1 position. The win was the eighth-straight victory for Saperstein this spring.
At the No. 4 spot, Koenen was victorious over Alice Taylor in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. De Chatellus picked up a victory at No. 5 singles, defeated Clearly, 6-2, 6-0.
Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) was victorious over Jen Christhilf, 6-1, 6-3, from the No. 6 singles slot.
Up next for the Hoyas is a trip to Indianapolis, Ind., for the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championships taking place April 23-26 at the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center.
