WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's tennis squad dropped its regular season finale to in-town rival George Washington, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon to finish the 2014-2015 campaign with an overall record of 8-9.
Freshman Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) picked up a win from the No. 4 singles position to record Georgetown's only point. He was victorious over Chris Reynolds, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) took the second set from Francisco Dias to send it to a third, but Dias emerged victorious to take the match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, from the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 position, Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) was defeated by Danil Zelenkov in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) also took his opponent to three sets, but was defeated by Christos Hadjigeorgiou, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, playing from the No. 3 singles position.
Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla County Day) lost to Julius Tverijonas in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. From the No. 6 singles spot, Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) was defeated by Cahit Kapukiran, 7-6(5), 6-0.
In doubles play, the duo of Beatty and John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) defeated Dias and Chris Fletcher, 8-6, from the No. 1 spot.
Up next for the Hoyas is a trip to Indianapolis, Ind., for the 2015 BIG EAST Men's Tennis Championships presented by New York Life. The tournament is scheduled to run from April 23-26 and will be hosted by Butler and the BIG EAST.
