WASHINGTON - Georgetown track & field standouts Darren Fahy (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) and Kundalini Nicholson-Walker (Hilo, Hawaii/Hilo) were named the BIG EAST Conference's Male Track Athlete of the Week and Female Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office in New York on Tuesday. This is the first honor for both Fahy and Nicholson-Walker and marks the second and third accolades this outdoor season for the Hoyas.
Fahy recorded a time of 8:42.51 to finish third in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Virginia Challenge over the weekend. His time leads the BIG EAST Conference, is the fifth-fastest so far this season in the East Region and the seventh-best in the country. The time was a personal record (PR) for Fahy, who holds the fourth-fastest time on record in GU history.
Nicholson-Walker, a freshman, set her PR as a Hoya with a jump of 5.61m (18' 5") in the women's open long jump at the Virginia Challenge. It is the second-best mark in the BIG EAST Conference this season and was the best long jump from the last week of competition. Nicholson-Walker enters the Georgetown record books at No. 7 with her performance.
The Hoyas will compete at the Penn Relays, held at historic Franklin Field, this Thursday, April 23 - Saturday, April 25.
