May 27, 2015

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Georgetown track & field team arrived in Jacksonville, Fla., for the 2015 NCAA Track & Field Championships - East Preliminary, a three-day meet that starts on Thursday, May 28, and held at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida. The Hoyas tally 23 student-athletes in the Sunshine State (10 women, 13 men) in seven different events.

With five student-athletes entered in the women's 800-meter prelims, Georgetown boasts the third-most entrants in a single event - only seven institutions can say the same from both the men's and women's field. All-American Sabrina Southerland (New York, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) enters the race with the best time among the quintet of Hoyas and the ninth-best time in the East region. Joining Southerland in the six-heat preliminary slated for Thursday at 8:35 p.m. ET will be Emma Keenan (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy), Heather Martin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayettville-Manlius), All-American Piper Donaghu (Portland, Ore./Grant) and All-American Becca DeLoache (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park).

All-American Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) enters the women's 1,500-meter preliminary round with the third-fastest time in the East region this season. The preliminary round is slated for 6 p.m. ET.

The men's 3,000-meter steeplechase is a stacked race for the Blue & Gray with a quartet of Hoyas among the 48-athlete field. Darren Fahy (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) enters the preliminary round, slated for Friday at 8:50 p.m. ET, with the sixth-fastest time in the East region. The event is a one-round preliminary with the top three from each heat plus the next three advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships finals site at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Competing with Fahy in the event are Ryan Gil (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Matt Howard (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) and Scott Carpenter (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial).

The men's 1,500-meter prelims feature a trio of Hoyas with All-American Cole Williams (San Francisco, Calif./Occidental College) recording the eighth-fastest time in the East region. The preliminary round is slated for Thursday at 5:30 p.m. ET with All-Americans Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./Saint Louis Country Day) and Ahmed Bile (Annandale, Va./Annandale) also in the mix.

The men's 800-meter prelims, scheduled for Thursday at 8:10 p.m. ET, feature a duo of Hoyas in All-Americans Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) and Billy Ledder (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga). White is in the midst of an impressive freshman campaign, already earning two All-America honors at the indoor national championship and garnering four BIG EAST titles (2 indoor, 2 outdoor), going undefeated in finals events at the conference championships. Ledder, a veteran on the Hilltop, is looking to cap his illustrious career on the Hilltop with a first-ever appearance at NCAA Outdoor Championships finals site.

Jonathan Green (Berlin, Mass./Saint John's High School) is entered in the men's 10,000-meter first round, scheduled for Thursday at 9 p.m. ET. Green owns the eighth-fastest time in the East region with the top 12 from the heat headed to Eugene.

The top five from each heat plus the next two fastest times will make up the 12 to advance to Eugene.

The trio of Collin Leibold (Fall Church, Va./Gonzaga), John Murray (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) and Stephen Kersh (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia Prep/University of Portland) will all compete in the men's 5,000-meter first round, scheduled for Saturday at 8:05 p.m. ET, with the top five from each heat and the next two fastest times advancing to Eugene.
