ROME, Italy - Buonasera from Rome! After the quick jump across the pond we arrived in Rome at about 7 a.m., local time. Everyone enjoyed the in-flight entertainment, but the food in the air left a little to be desired. The team averaged about 2.5 hours sleep per person, so we were running on adrenaline when we landed!
After a bus ride into the city, we wandered around the piazza for lunch before checking into the lovely Hotel Ponte Sisto Roma. Everyone needed a shower after the flight and the hot Italian sun, so it was a quick change before heading off to Vatican City.
Arriving in Vatican City technically marked our third country in less than 24 hours making the group seasoned travelers already. Our tour guide took us through the museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica before ending at the obelisk. We even got to watch the Changing of the Swiss Guard!
Despite our fatigue, everyone powered through to marvel at the beautiful rooms and works of art. The Sistine Chapel was incredible and St. Peter's Basilica was breathtaking as we discovered all that Vatican City had to offer.
Following some souvenir shopping and a quick stop at the hotel, we were off to our Anthony Travel Welcome Dinner at Polese.
To say it was a feast would be an understatement. It was five courses with appetizers, pasta, salad, beef and tiramisu for dessert. The restaurant took the best care of us as we dined al fresco and it is a night no one will soon forget.
It was a long journey and everyone is running on fumes, but with full bellies and a comfy bed to lay our heads we'll all get a good night's rest and be ready to discover Ancient Rome tomorrow.
Until then, Ciao!
