WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown men's tennis team opened the fall campaign this weekend at the fourth annual Penn Invitational at the Hamlin and Hecht Tennis Centers in Philadelphia. The three-day invitational featured Georgetown, William & Mary, Buffalo, Columbia, Old Dominion, Princeton, St. John's, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Yale and host University of Pennsylvania.
On the tournament's opening day Georgetown matched up against the Buffalo Bulls and the William & Mary Tribe.
Facing the Bulls first, the Blue & Gray was off to a slow start, taking three out of eight singles matches and giving up three doubles matches to Buffalo.
The Hoyas closed the day picking up the doubles point against William & Mary winning at the second and third flights. Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) and Michael Chen furthered GU's success as they won their singles matches against the Tribe.
On the second day, Chen partnered with Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) and downed VCU's Mobius and Lima, 6-1.
Georgetown closed the tournament against Yale, winning six out of eight singles matches.
The Hoyas return to action when they visit the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
