WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior men's basketball player D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Oak Hill) was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. It is the second-straight appearance on the Weekly Honor Roll and his third this season.
Georgetown is coming off a 74-63 win over DePaul on Saturday, its fourth win in the last five games, as the team improved to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in the BIG EAST Conference.
Smith-Rivera averaged 17.0 points, 7.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Hoyas, including a 79-66 loss at Creighton last Tuesday.
In the win over DePaul on Saturday, Smith-Rivera scored 17 points and tied his career-high with eight assists. He scored 14 points and had five assists in the second half. Earlier in the week, he scored 17 points and had seven assists in a loss to the Bluejays.
Overall this season, Smith-Rivera leads the Hoyas in scoring and assists, averaging 15.3 points and 4.5 assists per game. In BIG EAST Conference games, he is averaging 16.0 points and 7.0 assists per game.
Smith-Rivera's 308 career assists rank tied for No. 16 all-time at Georgetown with Jessie Sapp ('09). He is 11th all-time in scoring at Georgetown with 1,630 points and needs 44 points to pass Derrick Jackson ('78) for 10th on the list.
Georgetown hits the road for its next game, playing at St. John's on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Tipoff in New York at Madison Square Garden is slated for 6:30 p.m. The game will be shown live on FOX Sports 1, with Tim Brando calling the play-by-play and Tarik Turner serving as the color analyst.
