WASHINGTON - Georgetown University freshman Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) was named the CollegeSwimming.com BIG EAST Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday after her performance this past Saturday against William & Mary and Johns Hopkins.
For the second-straight meet to start her collegiate career, Barrett swept the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle races. After winning both events in Georgetown's season-opening sweep of Delaware and St. Francis (Pa.), Barrett improved both of her times as the Hoyas split with William & Mary and Johns Hopkins at McCarthy Pool. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, she touched the wall in 10:21.48 to take nearly three seconds off of her original time and win by a margin of more than four seconds. In the 500-yard freestyle, Barrett shaved 1.62 seconds from her previous best time, winning in 5:04.09.
Barrett and the Hoyas return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m., when they make the short trip to Towson University for a dual meet with the Tigers.
