WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's golf team will be heading to Akron, Ohio to compete in the Firestone Invitational beginning on Monday October 3 beginning at 8:30 am ET. The three-round Firestone Invitational will take place at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club and is hosted by the University of Akron.
The Hoyas finished 3-over 867 which left them in a tie for fourth place last year at the Firestone in 2015.
"Playing at Firestone Country Club is certainly one of the highlights of the year," Head Coach Tommy Hunter said. "It is a terrific golf course that demands all types of shots. The field is very strong and we will need to be consistent all three rounds in order to be successful".
This year's field includes: Akron, Ball State, Cincinnati, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Furman, Illinois State, Marshall, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Carolina Aiken, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Western Kentucky, and Xavier. Akron, Old Dominion, Ohio and Xavier join Georgetown as returners from last year's top five finishers.
Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Edgewood/Cardinal Gibbons[Fla.]), Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School), Jack Musgrave (Chesterton, Ind./Andrean), Anthony Perrino (Concord, N.C./The Canon School) and Eduardo Blochtein (Delray Beach, Fla./Spanish River Community) return to the lineup and look to build off their 7-over 859 overall that was good for an eighth place finish at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Blochtein lead the way with 3-under par 68 in the final round to leave him tied for 28th overall joined by Musgrave and Madsen.
