WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of McDonough Arena for a pair of BIG EAST matches this weekend. The Hoyas host Providence on Friday at 6 p.m. before welcoming Creighton at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Georgetown is coming off a tough road trip where it went 0-2 in league play against Marquette and DePaul. Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) led the Hoyas with 13 kills in a 3-1 setback at Marquette while Liv King (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion), Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) and Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) each added seven. Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) recorded a match-high 19 digs with Caitlin Brauneis (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) adding 11. In a 3-0 loss at DePaul, Sinnette led the way with 12 kills and eight digs while Speech chipped in another 11 kills.
On the season, both Sinnette and Speech are averaging over three kills per set with 3.52 and 3.15 kps, respectively. King chips in 2.67 kills a frame while Ashlie Williams
(Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) adds 2.10 kills a stanza. McKnight continues to pace the offense with 10.05 assists per set.
Defensively, Higareda anchors the back row with 4.38 digs per set while both McKnight and Sinnette add over two digs a frame. At the net, Speech leads the way with 0.88 blocks per set and Williams is also a blocking threat with 0.79 rejections a set.
Megan Onyundo leads Providence (12-8, 0-4 BIG EAST) with an even three kills per set while three other Friars notch at least two kills a frame. Allison Impellizeri is good for 2.34 kills per set, Jenae Alderson adds 2.26 kps and Cayla Veverka adds 2.18 a stanza as well. Defensively, Michelle Cruz averages 4.89 digs per set and Impellizeri chips in 1.10 block per set at the front row.
League-leading Creighton (10-6, 4-0 BIG EAST) travels to face Villanova on Friday before taking on the Hoyas on Saturday. The Bluejays (10-6, 4-0 BIG EAST) are led by Jaali Winters with 3.26 kills per set while Taryn Kloth (2.92 kps), Marysa Wilkinson (2.50 kps) and Lauren Smith (2.03 kps) are all offensive threats as well. The Creighton offense runs through Lydia Dimke with her 11.14 assists per set. Defensively, Brittany Witt averages 4.16 digs per set with Winters on her trail with 3.07 digs a frame.
Following the weekend tilts, the Hoyas are away once again for another Midwest road swing with matches against Xavier on Friday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m., in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Butler on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m., in Indianapolis, Ind.
